Overview

VERTE Healthcare is a Puerto Rico-based telemedicine platform connecting patients with healthcare professionals through virtual care. I contributed to the broader digital ecosystem, including website optimization, dashboard UX improvements, digital documents, email marketing templates and content design. My central product project was the design of a dedicated mobile app for patients.

[The Challenge]

The challenge

The challenge was to organize existing healthcare services into a mobile experience that prioritizes urgent needs, appointment management and access to medical information. Patients may be navigating the experience while worried, unwell or short on time, making clear language and predictable actions especially important.

[My Role]

My Role

As a product designer, I worked on information architecture, user flows, interface and interaction design, content design, reusable user interface components, and project transition support, in collaboration with the project owner. My work across all of VERTE’s digital touchpoints helped create a more consistent experience for patients.

[Patient-Centered Design]

Patient-Centered Design

The app was structured around four fundamental patient needs:

  1. Receive immediate care—request an urgent appointment.
  2. Schedule care—search for doctors and book appointments.
  3. Manage appointments—view upcoming appointments and participate in video calls.
  4. Access medical information—search for documents and relevant health information.

[The Mobile Experience]

Mobile Experience

One of the key design decisions was not to replicate the existing control panel screen by screen.

The mobile version required a different hierarchy. The most frequent and urgent actions needed to be immediately accessible, while secondary information could be placed in the background of the experience. This resulted in a simpler navigation model, focused on appointments, doctors, medical information, and the patient’s account.

The goal was to make the next action obvious.

[Key patient flows]

Key patient flows

Finding a doctor and scheduling care

Patients can review physician profiles, explore professional information and initiate an appointment request. The doctor profile places the primary scheduling action alongside relevant details to support decision-making.

Managing consultations

Appointment information and entry points to video consultations help patients understand what is coming next and how to access care.

Accessing health information

Medical documents and account information are available within the patient experience, supporting continuity after a consultation.

[Biometric Health Tracking]

Biometric health tracking

The app integrates biometric data collection to support ongoing patient monitoring and provide additional health context when requesting a new consultation.

Patients can record key health measurements directly within the experience, helping connect health tracking with the consultation journey.

[Crafting the Right Copy]

Crafting the Right Copy

In the healthcare sector, labels, instructions, and appointment statuses must convey information clearly. UX writing focused on helping patients understand where they are, what is happening, and what they can do next—without requiring them to be familiar with the platform’s internal processes.

[Result]

Result

The project resulted in a patient-specific mobile experience, and the app is currently in use. The patient app is just one part of VERTE’s service experience. The work done on the website, the dashboard, digital documents, the physician app, and email templates ensured consistency in information, appointment requests, consultations, and follow-up communications.

No specific improvements regarding adoption, usability, and conversion are listed here, as no verified metrics at the project level have been provided.
